Become a kylc volunteer coach

As a member of the KYLC Coaching Staff, you’ll play a pivotal role in creating a positive, energetic environment for your team, and you’ll get to witness the growth of players in a fun and supportive setting. This is a position where dedication and passion truly make a difference. Whether you’re a seasoned coach or a parent looking to get involved, we’ll provide the resources and support you need to succeed! No experience is necessary.

What Does our Coaching Staff Do?
  • Plan and Lead Practices: Collaborate with the KYLC Program Director to design exciting, skill-building drills and practice sessions tailored to your team's needs. Ensure that all equipment is in top shape and ready to go, so your players have everything they need to succeed.
  • Coach with Purpose: Lead by example and provide direction during practices and games, keeping players focused and motivated. You’ll teach key techniques, strategies, and game rules, while fostering a positive environment where players thrive and improve.
  • Manage Your Team: Be a go-to communicator for players, parents, and assistant coaches. Organize practice schedules, resolve conflicts, and ensure that every player feels valued and supported.
  • Player Development: Assess your players' skills and progress regularly, offering constructive feedback to help them grow. Emphasize the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect, making sure each player develops not only their athletic abilities but their character.
  • Handle Administrative Tasks: Work alongside KYLC leadership to manage practice and game schedules, paperwork, and rostering. This ensures smooth operations, allowing you to focus on coaching and developing players.
  • Commit to Personal Growth: Take advantage of opportunities to continue learning through coaching clinics, workshops, and online courses to keep improving your coaching techniques, strategies, and safety knowledge.
What Coaching Positions are Available, and What do they do?
For each KYLC team, our goal is to have a minimum of a Head Coach, Assistant Coach, and a Coaches Helper. We believe this approach supports one-on-one time with the players while providing a coaching team to rely on.

Head Coach: The Head Coach at KYLC is responsible for leading the team and shaping the players' overall experience. This leadership role involves planning and organizing practices, designing drills to improve skills, and setting team goals. The head coach provides direction, instruction, and motivation during practices and games, ensuring a positive and productive atmosphere. They also handle team management, including communication with parents, assistant coaches, and players, as well as resolving conflicts. The head coach manages administrative tasks like scheduling, rostering, and handling necessary paperwork. To be effective, they must have advanced coaching certifications, including a minimum of a USA Lacrosse Silver Certification (Level 1) training, and maintain first aid and CPR certifications.

Assistant Coach: The Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach by helping with practice planning, providing individual feedback to players, and assisting in coaching drills and skills development. On game days, they help with warm-ups, manage substitutions, and offer tactical advice during games. They also assist with administrative duties like communication with players and parents, keeping attendance, and tracking player progress. The Assistant Coach plays a key role in fostering a positive and supportive environment for the players, collaborating closely with the Head Coach on strategy and player development. They must maintain basic coaching certifications, including a minimum of a USA Lacrosse Bronze Certification, and first aid and CPR certifications.

Coaches Helper: The Coaches Helper serves as an extra set of hands and eyes to support the coaching staff, particularly during practice setup and breakdown, assisting with drills, and providing individualized attention to players. They help maintain player safety, encourage good sportsmanship, and foster team morale by offering positive reinforcement and promoting teamwork. On game days, they help with substitutions, player safety, and keeping players engaged. While they do not lead practices or provide tactical guidance, they play an essential role in ensuring that the team functions smoothly and that players have a fun, safe, and supportive environment. They must complete basic training, including USA Lacrosse Bronze Certification, and first aid and CPR training.

What will KYLC provide?
The KYLC support our coaching staff from the club’s executive level and daily engagement through our Program Director.
